As the list of known medicinal uses for marijuana increases, so does the awareness and acceptance of this magnificent plant. Over six years ago my mother was diagnosed with cancer. Through positive thinking and with the help of various cannabis products, she was able to persevere through the trials of chemotherapy and radiation, and has now been cancer-free for half a decade. Despite the fact that many people still view marijuana as being evil, I have seen first-hand how it can make a huge difference for individuals in pain. I have yet to go into a Colorado dispensary (recreational or medical) that doesn’t understand the truly miraculous potential that cannabis offers to patients suffering from a range of different ailments. It is, however, rarer that I visit a location that has clearly forged a relationship with their clients based off of a compassionate desire to help people who are suffering. Green Cross Caregivers is a location that is dedicated to its patrons’ well-being. and they are there to take the time to find the medication that is just right for you.
Nestled back in the corner of a little strip mall off of Parker Road, Green Cross Caregivers is marked with its namesake a large green cross (it is the first dispensary in the Colorado to bare this name). I entered into a clean little waiting room and was greeted by Rose behind the window. After I filled out a short bit of paperwork, I was guided through two more doors back to their main counter and met Neil and Darrell who were helping Marvin, a long-time customer and lung cancer survivor. Marvin’s interactions with the staff were a true testament to this location’s relationship with its patients. Rose, Neil and Darrell clearly knew their patrons and had forged personal relationships with them based on the wonderful medicinal properties of cannabis.
As I walked up to the counter Marvin introduced himself and when I asked him how his day was going so far he told me “it’s about to get a lot better!” He had just purchased himself some of Green Cross Caregivers’ flagship strain, Afwreck. Rose proceeded to grab the jar of Afwreck out of their (currently) 12 different strains so that I might take a look (and of course a whiff). This hybrid strain is a combination of Afghani Kush and Trainwreck, and was last tested at 28% THC content. Sweet and pungent in smell with a light mint green color speckled with delicate orange hairs, it’s easy to see why this strain has become a huge hit at this dispensary. On the Indica side, Rose showed me LA OG, which she described as an insomniacs dream strain (pun intended), and Avant, one of her personal favorites, which she said was a perfect couch-crashing pain relieving strain. On the Sativa side of things, I had a big olfactory handshake with Moby Dick. Beautiful notes of citrus and earthy aromas complimented the unbelievably sticky aesthetics of this trichome laden bud. Rose even admitted that this strain was powerful enough that she became inadvertently trapped in an internal dialog with herself after smoking some. I figured I best avoid the Moby Dick myself, lest I find that the Queequeg side of my brain is trying to talk reason to the Ahab side. To round off their buds they also had pre-rolled caviar joints (buds soaked in hash oil and rolled in keif),which are not intended for those of us with low tolerances.
As far as edibles go, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a larger selection crammed into a dispensary this size. All the basics were there including: IncrEdibles, Caviar Kings, Canyon Cultivations, Edipure, Cheeba Chews, Green Hornets, Wana candies, and Blue Kudus. They had marijuana infused drinks from Cannapunch in a variety of flavors that are sure to supplement your regular soda with a pleasant munchies-inducing alternative. In stock there was a selection of Better Baked goods that use all C02 extraction for their edibles, and Julie and Kate’s products which include healthy edible options for people with gluten intolerance or diabetes. Another product that Darrell and Rose pointed out was the Mountain High Suckers which are unique in the fact that they test for a massive range of different cannabinoids, so that you can make sure that you are getting the perfect components for whatever you’re specific ailment is. Trust me when I say this is not the entire extent of their edible selection. I feel like I could write a small dissertation paper on the variety of edibles that they carry in store.
If your desire stems away from edibles or buds alone, they also carry concentrates from different extraction companies ready to go home with you and either be sprinkled on a bowl, or loaded into a vape pen. Try some compressed bubble hash for $15 a gram and sprinkle it on some of their Moby Dick and get ready for a Nantucket sleigh ride straight into a bag of Cheetos. Dive lighter first into some butter wax, extracted by Colorado Concentrates. Sink your dabbing harpoon into some thick and sticky Afwreck butter extracted by Epic Extracts. Any way you do it, you won’t be disappointed by the high quality extracts available at Green Cross Caregivers. If you want tinctures or topical applications, this is the place for you as well. They carry a large selection of Mary Jane’s topicals, as well as a full supply of Apothecanna extracts. The only thing I didn’t find at Green Cross Caregivers was a large selection of pipes. Even then, they did still have a selection of $5 little glass pipes, which Rose could personally testify to the durability having inadvertently dropped hers on the floor at home.
This is a wonderful dispensary, with knowledgeable staff members who are there to take the time to find the medical product that are just right for you. Their selection of edibles is unrivaled for being a relatively small store, and the quality of their buds is impeccable. With return customers as light hearted and friendly as Marvin and budtenders as awesome as Darrell, Neil and Rose, I have no doubt that any new patients visiting Green Cross Colorado will instantly make some new friends and leave satisfied that they have attained some of the best products in town.
